Contemporary two-storey extension to a family home in North Cambridge
MOOi were approached by the owners of this property to provide more space at ground floor for their young family and two additional bedrooms; a guest room for elderly relatives at ground floor and a new master bedroom suite at first floor.
The solution rationalises and zones areas at ground floor and improves the relationship and flow between the various spaces. The open plan kitchen / dining / snug area at the rear becomes the main focus of the home, whilst other more functional areas such as the Utility and Cloakroom have been internalised and positioned at the side of the property, not only for the practicalities of services / drainage, but also to maintain and improve secondary access into property.
At first floor the existing layout was reconfigured to provide access to a fourth bedroom at the rear, featuring a vaulted ceiling, en-suite and a walk in wardrobe with bespoke joinery.
Externally the proposals seek to rationalise and combine the rear additions into a singular modest, yet contemporary gesture, finished in blue render at ground floor and open jointed cedar cladding at first floor.
