Luna House | MOOi were approached by the owners of this mid-twentieth century #property in #Cambridge with a brief to create a generous open plan, family kitchen/dining space, which could also be easily divided depending on the use of the various areas. At first floor level there was also a requirement for an additional bedroom, new bathroom and en-suite.
In conjunction with expert #craftsmanship from @tomaskitchens on the #kitchen and #joinery, the interior provides a seamless transition between the existing and new areas, opening up to the expansive garden and showcasing the client’s beautiful collection of #midcentury furniture.
The inclusion of full height #pocketdoors allows the space at ground floor level to be easily subdivided if and when required, offering flexibility which is often not possible with large open plan layouts.

Completed MOOi Project | Before & After 🧡 We are delighted to receive the professional photos of our latest completed project in the Riverside Conservation Area #Cambridge, perfectly captured by @snookphotograph! ⭐️
The proposals included a new side + rear extension to create a more spacious family kitchen and dining area, with an asymmetric roof form to maximise the south facing roof slope for solar panels + to maintain a continuous roof form extending through from the side infill return. The roof projection at the rear also helps to minimise solar gain + extend the living space out onto the raised terrace.
Externally the extension, clad in brown #zinc + #cedar with @maxlightltd glazing, helps to subtly define the rear addition as a distinct element, alongside the existing property.
The beautiful kitchen by @tomaskitchens in Knighton Blue with #oak accents complements the extension perfectly 💙
This project also features a host of #renewable features including an #airsourceheatpump, #solarpanels & home battery storage, helping to minimise future energy costs for its owners.

We love the feature Oak fins at our MOOi project in Newnham #Cambridge 🧡 The frame of the roof light, which is modular + can be opened electrically, perfectly aligns with the Oak fins. This adds a warmth + texture to the room, along with providing privacy, by limiting splayed views from neighbouring properties. Cantilever House | Before & After 🧡 MOOi were approached by the owners of this beautiful Edwardian property in the Central #Cambridge Conservation Area, to resolve the existing ground floor layout which they found convoluted, dark and oppressive.
The proposals included a new side + rear extension to create a more spacious kitchen and dining area, with a dramatic roof form which mirrors the generous ceiling heights throughout the rest of the property. The beautiful kitchen by @tomaskitchens in Poppyfield Blue with Walnut accents complements the extension perfectly 💙
As part of the scope we also created a new utility room in the basement and other updates were carried out throughout the property, including bespoke joinery and new bathrooms and en-suites.
Externally the extension, clad in red Zinc, helps to define the rear addition as a distinct element, alongside the existing property, picking out the red tones of the existing clay tiled roof and red brickwork detailing on the front elevation of the property.
The cantilevered corner of the rear extension, gives the illusion of a floating structure and the “Vistaline” sliding doors from @idsystemsuk allow for the corner to be completely exposed, providing a seamless connection with the external terrace.

House for a Musician | We helped transform this 1930’s property in central #Cambridge, working closely with our client to modernise & personalise their home. The proposals include a two storey #extension creating a generous kitchen/dining area, with a dedicated music room for their piano + at first floor we have extended the rear bedroom + created a new bathroom.
Externally this project features “Cambridge Light Weathered” #brickwork from @beabuildingproducts, Anthra Zinc @vmzincuk roofs + Heritage doors from @idsystemsuk 🤩

MOOi were approached by the owners of this lovely property to create an exciting + dramatic family / entertaining space which opened out onto their South facing garden 🌳 The materials of the extension were carefully considered to compliment the existing building fabric, with the red tones of the Zinc highlighting the bold contemporary roof form + the soldier course detailing as a modern interpretation of the existing brickwork 🧱

Colour Pop House | Throwing back to our contemporary refurbishment of an Edwardian family home in central Cambridge 🧡 This extension with its dynamic form features black render and a black zinc roof. Slimline @maxlightltd external doors slide away to expose the cantilevered corner, providing a flexible family entertaining space.
The large, open-plan contemporary kitchen features bespoke, linoleum faced, midnight blue, handleless cabinetry and a rough sawn oak central island with terrazzo top. The colour “pop” continues with vibrant daffodil yellow featuring on the glass splashback, rebated into the oak splayed reveal. The kitchen delivers on both form and function by incorporating clever design to conceal functional features and storage, for a refined + uncluttered appearance.
Smart Home systems link the home automation, heating and lighting with the AV surround sound system, incorporating integrated ceiling speakers throughout and retractable projector + screen for family film screenings 🎥

New Year | Gelukkig nieuwjaar!
As we step into 2025 we’re delighted to return refreshed to a diary full of MOOi projects ⭐️ While we approach completion on some, work continues on site at others and new projects are lined up and ready for a new year start!
To kick things off we’re delighted to share images of “Pocket House” in #cambridge, wonderfully captured by @richardfraserphotography.co.uk 📸
MOOi were appointed to design this compact one-bedroom property in the Mill Road Conservation Area, #Cambridge, replacing an existing double garage.
Built using an innovative ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) #construction, much of the work on site was carried out by the client in order to minimise costs. The modest 45sqm plan is strategically arranged over two storeys, partially sunken at ground floor to reduce the height of the dwelling.
The exterior is clad in locally sourced, handmade gault #brickslips with a feature brown #zinc roof. The muted palette of materials makes a subtle yet characterful addition to the urban street scene.

Completed Project | Before & After 🧡 Our latest project to update and reconfigure a #Victorian terraced property in central #cambridge is complete 🧡 Featuring slimline sliding doors by @maxlightltd and kitchen in collaboration with @belvisifurniture, including a beautiful matte porcelain worktop, Oak cabinetry & statement pendant lights by @flos ⭐️ Our brief was to maximise space + light in this family kitchen + dining space, without extending the existing footprint ⭐️ With some careful consideration + refined material palette we created a new spacious open plan layout, with expansive views out to the their lovely garden!

This 1960’s split level property was disjointed & lacked connection with the outside spaces at both upper & lower ground levels & the exterior was tired & in need of repair!
The proposals include a series of adaptations & additions to improve the layout & circulation of the property. At lower-ground level this involved converting a garage into a spacious kitchen & dining area, looking out onto a beautifully landscaped sunken courtyard & at upper-ground level, a living room extension & home office that lead out onto a raised terrace & the upper-level garden beyond, again wonderfully landscaped by our clients 🌳
The new additions are clad in horizontal open jointed timber cladding, with Aluminium copings & wild flower green roofs + feature MOOi orange windows 🧡

Community interventions | We’ve been commissioned by the mini MOOi’s to see what we could do to help revitalise an uninviting & seemingly forgotten playground in central #Cambridge.
Living in central Cambridge, it’s evident that there’s an unfortunate lack of playgrounds in the Petersfield area and it got us thinking, how we might be able to raise awareness to bring some much needed updates and improvements to the Ravensworth Gardens Playground.
The area in question is on top of the Ravensworth Gardens car park and although there is a playground at present, it is very tired and falling apart and there’s an overgrown patch of grass adjacent which is never used. Owing to its remote location, being raised above the street level of the adjacent Tenison Road and Devonshire Road and its unwelcoming access through large gates, over the years it has become a hotspot for drug dealing, antisocial behaviour and crime.
We feel that the main issue at present is the lack of visual and physical connection with the street. In order to address this (but not affect the existing carpark) a stepped frontage could be introduced, retaining the mature trees, providing a more generous direct route for the public and improving visibility 🌳
A cafe and seating area could also potentially be created on the rear of the car park entrance, in order to create a greater sense of community and for the parents to enjoy whilst visiting the playground 🛝
A new playground, multi-sports pitch and outdoor gym could then be created on the rest of the area, making better use of the space and providing a much needed facility for children of the local area.
We have drafted a quick aerial concept sketch of how this might work. We wanted to raise awareness of this issue with the local Council and provide some initial ideas for how this might be resolved 🧡 #MOOi
