Linear  House

This central Cambridge project revitalises a Victorian terraced property by maximising space and natural light entirely within its original footprint. Rather than relying on an exterior extension, the design utilises internal reconfiguration and a refined material palette to create a spacious, open-plan family kitchen and dining area that seamlessly connects to the outdoors.

The primary objective was to transform a traditionally segmented Victorian layout into a modern, light-filled environment suitable for family living. By carefully considering the internal flow, the new layout removes restrictive barriers to establish a continuous open-plan space. Sightlines are extended through the depth of the house directly out to the garden, completely altering the spatial perception of the home and making it feel substantially larger.

The interior aesthetic balances natural warmth with contemporary precision. Expansive, slimline sliding doors by Maxlight run across the rear elevation, drawing in abundant natural light and framing uninterrupted views of the garden. Executed in collaboration with Belvisi Furniture, the kitchen centres around custom oak cabinetry that introduces rich natural texture to the space. A highly durable matte porcelain worktop provides a clean, modern contrast to the timber elements, while statement pendant lights by Flos above the linear island, serving as a distinct architectural focal point that complements the clean lines of the room.
